Students' Favourite Blogs
Students have shared their favorite information/library/archives/cultural/whatever blogs. Feel free to add to the list!
"News from the Open Access movement". It is updated frequently (multiple times a day) and has international content. This movement is new so is rapidly advancing and evolving and many, likely most, people involved in it are glad Suber has this blog to keep us on top of developments.

Why? U of Ottawa law prof Michael Geist provides straight forward, easy to understand information on technology and its implications in law, ethics, and current events. Plus he's a major advocate for fair copyright for Canada- check out his facebook group too! http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=6315846683

Why? Crazy celebrity outfits + witty, barbed commentary = pure escapism. This counts as cultural, right?
-Kim Davison
Reading ReadWriteWeb shows me the exciting stuff on the web, and it reminds me that there's more to libraries than libraries' current best practices.

Blogs from the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, MN -- always happy to promote my ol' stomping grounds. They don't pay me anymore, so why am I doing this? Oh right, because they're awesome. Check out blogs from multiple department staff: Design, Education & Community Programs, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Film/Video, New Media and "Off Center." (Morgan from EDU is particularly sassy!) - S. Kays
Jessamyn has been blogging for almost a decade about rural librarianship, technical challenges and revolutions, and life in general (see her personal journal at http://www.jessamyn.com). Hers was one of the first "online journals" I ever heard of, back when we both lived in Seattle and librarianship was not even on the radar for me. She's a frequent inspiration. - Jennifer Dixey
The format is a clever use of blogging style. It might not inspire a positive mental attitude, but it's really funny. Make sure you read the comments--often they're the best part. - Joe H
The library has a book page with pictures which is very dynamic and easy to find from the homepage. It offers readers advisories, one generated by staff and the other by the readers themselves. The blog always looks fresh by scrolling through a larger list and displaying a potentially new set of covers after navigating somewhere else on the website. Subscription via RSS is possible using user defined alerts, i.e "my author alerts". The blog covers a lot of ground and could have potentially been very complicated but it's easy to use and very pleasing visually. It integrates nicely with the website. This blog gives better community interaction, better service, improved outreach and undoubtedly makes the job of readers advisories easier. - Marcia Bergen
With fresh new entries twice a week, this blog has the answers to some of those questions about people, places, things, and concepts that you often wonder about but just never get around to looking up. It's one of the few blogs on my GReader that I actually take the time to read. Perfect for all those reference questions that you might one day have to answer... -Jovy Rosario
- I have to admit, I am a fan of the Annoyed Librarian http://annoyedlibrarian.blogspot.com/">http://annoyedlibrarian.blogspot.com/. Athough she can be crazy negative, and you often wonder why she is a librarian at all, I think she provides interesting perspective on the world of libraries (i.e., that they are not all fabulous, and that you have to deal with frustrating people in libraries too). I love BoingBoing (www.boingboing.net)!
It's a good mix of cool, interesting and weird things and stories (sometimes all three at one time!). Lots of tech related stuff as well as pop culture tid-bits, politics and photos. Plus, occasionally there is something library or information related. For example, it's where I found out about the Library of Congress' Flickr page!
I think this blog is under the category of cultural/ whatever blog. Based on a life time experiences, the author has a lot of inspiring stories to share. Art, music, a daily chat, and … you can find them all. -Naz T.

My favourite library blog is Miss Information at http://miss-information.blogspot.com/. It's another one that often falls into the negative category, in a sarcastic way, but it's really funny! She's a public librarian/library tech who is frequently on the reference desk and she has lots of good stories. Always good for a laugh! - Krista Hill

I should be ashamed of myself for posting this amongst everyone else's intelligent, informational blogs, but for a peek into the fluffy, snooty and superficial world of high fashion beyond the pales of SLAIS, check out the style file from style.com: http://www.style.com/trends/blogs/style_file. (The rest of the website is pretty awesome too.) A guilty pleasure with an added benefit: you'll feel even better about your own contribution to the world. :)

@ the library (your local library is a twisted place)

this blog is great for its depiction of the modern public library as penultimate contemporary gothic setting - Christina N.

I really enjoy Bookshelves of Doom, for her t-shirts, her YA book
reviews, and general things of interest to a cool librarian:

Also in my favourites is Smart Bitches who Read Trashy Novels, for the
most entertaining 'what was this book with the vague plot I rad in the
80s?' questions.Ok and sometimes for the pictures:
